Outback in the Caribbean: The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Legends Championships

The Outback is coming to the Caribbean. The second event of the 2008 Outback Champion Series is set to be hosted this April by The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. The resort is known as a vacation destination that offers the height of luxury in an exquisite Caribbean surrounding. It's now ready to set a new standard of luxury in sports. With a field of legendary players and the incredible setting of The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman as a backdrop, the 2008 Legends Championships will be one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments to be hosted in the Cayman Islands.

Founded and produced by InsideOut Sports & Entertainment, the Outback Champions Series was introduced in 2005 and consists of eight annual events. Created as a venue for high-calibre tennis players over the age of 30 to exercise their skills, athleticism and competitiveness, the Outback Champion Series has proved be highly successful. In order to be eligible to enter the tournament, players must have reached a Grand Slam singles final, competed in singles on a championship Davis Cup team or achieved a ranking among the top five players in the world. Each tournament also includes a wild card entrant.

The upcoming Legends Championships will feature eight international competitors playing in a round-robin format. The 2008 line-up for the Cayman Islands tournament includes some of the greatest names in tennis. Top-ranked players John McEnroe and Jim Courier are confirmed as entrants, along with Olympic silver medalist Wayne Ferreira and former Davis Cup competitor Jimmy Arias. Todd Martin, Mikael Pernfors, Mats Wilander and Paul Haarhuis will complete the field. Considering the talented roster, the Legends Championships will no doubt be an exciting and thrilling event set in the stunning backdrop of The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

The anticipation leading up to the 2008 Legends Championships in the Cayman Islands increased with the release of the tournament schedule. April 16, 2008 will be the first day of play and will feature three round-robin matches followed by a kickoff party. The next three days will feature three round-robin matches as well as additional activities including a pro-am event at the Cayman Island Tennis Club and a Kids Day at The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. The final day of the tournament, April 20, will feature the third-place match followed by the much-anticipated championship match. With $150,000 in prize money up for grabs, and $54,000 going to an undefeated winner, every match is expected to be a great show.
